The importance of a cross-border labor market

On June 17, 2024, Fontys Venlo is organizing a kick-off event for the project "Towards a 360° labor market. The initiative is part of the Region Deal North Limburg and focuses on creating a cross-border labor market, where supply and demand on both sides of the border seamlessly match.

Vincent Pijnenburg, lecturer in Cross-Border Business Development at Fontys Venlo, emphasizes the urgency of the project: "Without a 360-degree perspective, the chances that highly educated people will leave the region after their studies are much higher. With a 180-degree perspective, the opportunities at the edge of the country are also smaller. Looking across the border can eliminate that disadvantage."

Program

The program will start at 3 p.m. with a welcome address by Elianne Demollin-Schneiders, deputy for education and labor market of the Province of Limburg. Pijnenburg will lead the afternoon as moderator. There will also be a podium discussion on the 360° labor market, with various experts such as Fontys Venlo alumnus Alex Beinert (Scheuten Glas), Inge Bloemen (HR manager at Pure Ingredients), Paul Sars (professor of German Language and Culture at Radboud University) and Don Thijssen (district manager of labor market regions North and Central Limburg at UWV WERKbedrijf). In addition, Jos Meessen of Meet the Youngsters will make an interactive contribution on the use of Virtual Reality to explore the Euregion. Pijnenburg will then give a preview of the project. The event will conclude with the signing of a cooperation agreement and a toast.
