Food Scientist Prof Dr. Jaap Seidellis university professor of Nutrition and Health at the Free University in Amsterdam. His research focuses on the role of lifestyle in the prevention of chronic diseases. In this he has specifically studied the causes and consequences of obesity. He would like to tell you more about this during the symposium Just Eat It!
Dr. Frans Folkvord will give a lecture on his collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission to contribute to a healthier environment for children. He does this by translating scientific research into practical implementation plans.

In her lecture on policies and regulations surrounding child marketing of (un)healthy foods, Dr. Alie de Boer will provide more insight into the latest developments in the Netherlands surrounding child marketing. Alie de Boer is associate professor at the University of Maastricht and at the campus in Venlo she researches nutrition & food information. She takes you into the world of food policy and laws and regulations and connects current and proposed initiatives to scientific insights on the effects of child marketing strategies on (un)healthy eating.

Creative methodologies - by Puck Jonkers(Project coordinator Kokkerelli) and Ilse van Lier(PhD candidate University of Maastricht): Cooperating with children, how do you go about it? This becomes child's play with the help of playful methods. During this workshop we will explain various methods. In addition, we will get to work with a creative form that will inspire you as a participant to get started as well.
.Healthy food is a basic right and not an individual choice - By Drees Peter van den Bosch: Is healthy food a basic right or an individual choice? Who chooses? And who takes responsibility? Is it up to the consumer or should the government take a role in this? Come listen and participate. Together we will look for answers.
Drees Peter van den Bosch has extensive experience in the food industry, with players such as Unilever and Hutten Catering. He currently runs his own company 'De Goede Peer' which initiates and develops new ideas around sustainable, pure food products.
Young adults (18-25 years old) and media use towards food - By Lauranna Teunissen and Paulien Decorte: How do you create social media messages about food to influence healthy eating behavior? What are the best things to consider when it comes to creating engaging, influential social media messages about nutrition for young people? In addition, you will be taken into the world of food literacy. What skills and knowledge are needed for children and youth to build and maintain a lifelong, healthy and sustainable relationship with food? Listen in, participate and ask your questions on this topic!
Lauranna Teunissen is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam and received her PhD in Social Sciences in 2024 from the University of Antwerp (Department of Communication Sciences). Her dissertation focused on studying media messages about food and eating as a strategy to promote food literacy among young adults (18-25 years old). In particular, the dissertation sheds light on the selection of and exposure to media messages about food eating, the characteristics of these messages and their relationship to young adults' food literacy.
Paulien Decorte earned her doctorate in the Dept. Communication Sciences at UAntwerpen in 2024, and now works there as a postdoctoral researcher. Her dissertation focused on how young adults between 18-25 years old use, interact with and are influenced by media messages about food in their choices, habits and preferences. She focused on subjective perceptions of these messages and their effects, as well as how they are objectively processed through bodily responses.

Change in behavior toward healthy eating. - By Dr. Roel Hermans:During this workshop we will discuss behavior and change. Making healthy eating choices - why is this easier said than done for many people? Facilitating and encouraging healthy choices - focusing on the individual and the environment using the 9 behavioral determinants. What is needed for sustainable behavioral change? After the course, participants will have more knowledge about the process of behavioral change and will have concrete tools on how to effectively promote healthy food choices.
Roel Hermans holds a PhD in research on social eating behavior. As an expert in nutrition and behavior, he is affiliated with the Nutrition Center.
Questions (V)hour Youth, Nutrition and Health - By Prof. Dr. Edgar van Mil: What have you always wanted to know about the health effects of nutrition on children? For example, how important is fiber from grains and vegetables for a child and why do you do well to start this early? What does work to teach children to eat vegetables? From what age does it become very difficult to get rid of obesity? Professor of youth, nutrition and health and pediatrician Edgar van Mil answers these questions!
Edgar van Mil is Professor of Youth, Nutrition and Health at Maastricht University. He is also a Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital. He has been committed to preventing type 2 diabetes (in children) for many years.
