FieldLab Robotics

Next April 20, 2023, the FieldLab Robotics event will take place in Maastricht!

FieldLab Robotics was started as an initiative of 2 entrepreneurs, with support from the Province of Limburg and Keyport, among others. The opening took place on April 15, 2021. The goal of this first official Limburg Fieldlab is to create awareness about the opportunities that (industrial) robotization can offer for companies, educational institutions and governments. Now the time has come to broaden the base so that the FieldLab can develop into the next phase. That broadening is officially heralded by the signing of a cooperation agreement by the new partners:

  • Robomotive
  • Maastricht University
  • Gilde Opleidingen
  • Vista College
  • Zuyd College

Corosect is a European innovation project focusing on automation, digitization and robotization of insect nurseries. Insects will play an important role regarding our food security in the future. In Europe, this branch is still in its infancy. Much of the work is still done manually. The Corosect partners want to change that. Maastricht University is project coordinator and FieldLab Robotics is one of the many participating parties in the project. In the period August - December 2022, 60 3rd year bachelor students from Maastricht University, Department of advances computing sciences, worked in teams to robotize, digitize, automate various processes that take place during the breeding of insects. Together, they built a mini insect farm.

A number of students proudly present their results during this afternoon. Dr. Rico Möckel, research director of the Department of Advances Computing Sciences & Labs, supervised this project and is also project coordinator Corosect.
