Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) for Business Owners

Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) for Business Owners

Are you investing in an asset that reduces CO2 emissions or is energy-efficient, or do you want to invest in renewable energy? If so, take advantage of the Energy Investment Deduction (EIA). The EIA offers opportunities for a wide range of investments and sectors, such as construction, greenhouse horticulture, livestock farming, and industry.

You can then deduct 40% of the investment costs from your profit. This reduces your taxable income. On average, this results in a 10% benefit. In addition, you’ll receive the standard depreciation on your investment and a lower energy bill.

Who is this for?

The EIA is available to all businesses subject to income tax or corporate income tax. Government agencies, foundations, and associations may also make use of the EIA if they pay corporate income tax. The program is not available to individuals.

Check to see if your investment is on the Energy List

You can apply for an EIA for investments listed on the Energy List. The code description for the investment on the Energy List specifies the requirements and conditions your investment must meet. Use the online search tool to check whether your investment is listed on the Energy List.
